A young soldier gazes out from the fort of Valek Mur, watching the Realm he has sworn to protect.
A savaging storm is rolling down the mountains, threatening to cover them all into darkness.
But he does not fear darkness or rain, for he has the faith of all men to keep his people safe.


Finally I had the time to finish this piece! I've been working on this project for a few weeks now and it's without doubt my biggest and most intense piece I've done so far. I created the river with a basic Vue render.. then painted on details. The foreground structure is modeled and textured in C4D. The rest is Adobe Photoshop.

I always wanted to do such a matte painting. I think, when I finally got the sketch I was pleased with, the matte came out great. The piece touches me and gets me thinking. Personal piece created to improve my skills. Won first place in a contest on planetrenders.net.

I started with a photograph that had some really nice colors and gradient in the sky. I then painted on my comp and started modeling the basic shapes. The buildings have been painted over totally in photoshop afterwards though. My 3d texture skills still show some flaws for creating the thing I have in mind.
This is actually my 2nd final version of this piece. I extended the whole canvas and added the bridge to make the comp more interesting.]]> Tue, 25 Dec 2007 13:43:13 +0000
